WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?

The body has many complex and dynamic interconnected systems, but at the same time, it is generally very simple and mechanical to understand disturbances in this system. Just like a baby- once you understand their common problems and cues, you can easily remedy the disturbance yourself.

Naturopathic Doctors dedicate themselves to understanding the physiology of the body and studying historical approaches to supporting the body and reading it's cues.

There are often more similarities between ND's and other medical practitioners than differences; however what sets us apart is:
1) The System. We are afforded more time to listen to and examine each individuals concerns.
2) Our 6 principles focus on individualized treatment, education and prevention.
3) We treat using a broad range of therapies that are aimed at the root causative factors. Most of our therapies are to support the body's own healing capacity. They tend to rely on the complex healing properties of natural substances and work in a synergistic way.

In the initial visit you can expect a ton of questions, to better understand your big picture, plus a short physical exam. Lab work may also be requested.  When we analyze the information, we look for patterns and common denominators of health or imbalance. We often do additional research in order to put together a comprehensive treatment plan. This plan often contains nutritional recommendations, lifestyle changes, directions for mind body therapies, exercise prescriptions amongst select botanical and supplemental regimens. In cases of complex chronic illness the course of treatment may last longer, though we generally try to keep intensive regimens to a short time frame to initiate healing, then move on to more sustainable lifestyle plans. Acupuncture is another effective therapy that is commonly utilized in our treatments. Other therapies include hydrotherapy, physical adjustment, body work, and homeopathy.
